Using Reggae Music to Share the Gospel
The Gospel Reggae Team Initiative (GRTI), popularly known as the Kristofarians, is a Christian non-profit movement dedicated to using reggae music, culture, media, and community engagement as tools for evangelism, discipleship, and social transformation.
Since our formation in 2021, we have worked to reclaim reggae music as a vehicle for spreading the message of Jesus Christ, demonstrating that reggae can be a powerful instrument for worship, fellowship, and soul-winning. Our mission is simple: to proclaim Christ through reggae and bring hope, healing, and redemption to communities across Africa and beyond.
Our Activities
Rydeem of Light International Gospel Reggae Festival
Our flagship project is the Rydeem of Light International Gospel Reggae Festival, an annual gathering of Gospel Reggae musicians, ministers, scholars, creatives, and audiences from Nigeria, Africa, the Caribbean, and the wider African Diaspora. The festival serves as a platform for worship, evangelism, cultural exchange, and artistic excellence. Over the years, it has hosted dozens of artists from multiple states and countries, creating an environment where lives are transformed through music and the Gospel.
The festival has held in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano, attracting artists from Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Gombe, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa and other states in Nigeria.
Gospel Reggae Evangelism and Outreach
Beyond the festival, we organise outreach programmes, concerts, worship gatherings, and evangelistic engagements in churches, schools, communities, and public spaces. Through these activities, we bring the message of salvation to people who may not ordinarily be reached through traditional ministry approaches.
Many individuals, including former Rastafarians and reggae enthusiasts, have encountered Christ through our ministry and become active members of Christian communities.
Music Production and Artist Development
We support Gospel Reggae musicians through collaborations, mentorship, performance opportunities, and music production initiatives. Our growing network includes artists, bands, DJs, choirs, pastors, academics, and creative professionals committed to advancing the Gospel through reggae music.
One of our landmark projects is The Christ in Reggae, a collaborative version excursion album featuring 14 musicians, including several former adherents of Rastafarianism who now use their gifts to proclaim Christ. We are also developing new collaborative recording projects such as Rebuilding the Reggae Temple (https://www.facebook.com/reel/1397240631810248) to strengthen the Gospel Reggae movement across Africa.
Christian Fellowship and Community Building
The Kristofarians are more than a music movement. We are a community of believers united by faith in Jesus Christ and a passion for reggae music. Through fellowship meetings, prayer gatherings, networking events, and social activities, we encourage spiritual growth, mutual support, and Christian unity.
Some of such includes the quarterly Love Feast where we have lavish food, drinks and spontaneous music.
We also have the Kristofarian Listening Session, which features a webinar-style conversion on the tenets of Christianity and how it differs from the Rastafarian concepts encountered in secular reggae. Check the hashtag #kristofarianlistening on Facebook.
Media, Education and Advocacy
We use digital media, television, radio, social media, publications, and live events to educate audiences about the positive values of Gospel Reggae. We also challenge stereotypes associated with reggae music and promote a Christ-centered understanding of the genre. Through interviews, articles, documentaries, and online content, we continue to amplify the voices of Gospel Reggae ministers and encourage meaningful conversations around faith, culture, and transformation.
Kristofarian Jam Session
The Kristofarian Jam Session is a weekly performance session (https://www.facebook.com/reel/432072659524393) in the Abuja studios of Akweya TV. She TV show is anchored by Mama Lucee who brings who deep Christian perspectives to the delivery. The show serves as a weekly opportunity to share the gospel through reggae. It airs on Friday at 1pm.
